Your Summer Dental Emergency Guide [BLOG]

There’s too much going on during the summer months to waste any time feeling miserable because of a toothache or sitting in the dental chair because of an oral injury.

But when dental emergencies do happen, our team at Konstantine Trichas DDS, LLC will be here for you!

How To Handle Summer Dental Emergencies

You can use these tips as a guide should your summer fun be interrupted by problems with your teeth. Keep in mind that if any of these common dental problems comes with bleeding, you’ll want to get that under control first! Any pain or swelling you’re experiencing can be managed with cold compresses and non-aspirin pain relievers, as well, until you can be seen by your Basking Ridge dentist.

You’ve Lost A Tooth

One of the most common dental emergencies we see is a knocked-out tooth.

This is especially true during warmer seasons because everyone is more physically active and, consequently, more prone to accidents and injuries.

If you can find the lost tooth, pick up by the crown and, if needed, rinse it carefully under warm water and seal it in a container of milk. Water will work, too, or you can try to place it gently back in the socket and head straight to your emergency dental appointment!

We’ll try to save your tooth, but if we can’t, we have advanced dental implant solutions to restore your smile and oral function!

You’re About To Lose A Tooth

While you might think a loose tooth should come out, don’t try to pull it or mess around with it. Nothing works as well as your natural teeth, so it’s better to keep it in the socket for as long as you can.

Call us right away so we can solve the problem, preferably with some sort of tooth-colored restoration, so it doesn’t loosen even more, or worse, fall out completely!

You’ve Damaged A Tooth

You’re at a neighborhood barbecue chowing down on ribs and you accidentally bite down on a bone, or maybe an intense game of beach volleyball resulted in an elbow to your mouth during a play.

Now you have a cracked or broken tooth!

Gather any pieces of your tooth and bring it with you to the dentist office, and we can try to save it. If not, we have tooth-colored restorative solutions that will not only strengthen and repair the damaged tooth, but you won’t be able to see any evidence that the injury occurred!

You’re Having Problems With A Restoration

Dental restorations like cavity fillings and crowns are made to last years, but eventually, they will need to be repaired or replaced.

Unfortunately, you may not know when until it actually happens.

If an old restoration breaks or falls out while you’re snacking on almonds out by the pool or you bite into a popcorn kernel during family movie night, call us for assistance. You can keep a restoration in place with dental cement, but only temporarily, so we’ll try to arrange your emergency appointment at the earliest possible availability!

You Have A Toothache Or Dental Pain

Whether it comes and goes, or whether it’s intense and persistent, dental pain can be really hard to ignore.

Normally, it’s a sign of some sort of infection, extensive decay, or root exposure.

Regardless, a toothache or any other kind of pain in your mouth is an emergency and should be treated as such.

So don’t suffer! Give us a call right away so we can get to the bottom of the underlying problem and take care of it!
